How does the consultation work?

You’ll send me your script a week before our scheduled online meeting, which I’ll read thoroughly, making notes for discussion.

Then, we meeting on Zoom for up to an hour.  I’ll provide academically- and dramaturgically-sound feedback, which we’ll discuss, putting together an action plan for your next draft.

Who is the consultation with?

Mike Heath has an MA in creative writing, specialising in playwriting, and has over 20 years of playwriting experience. His work has been performed extensively around the UK, and as far afield as Australia.

Mike founded WriteForTheStage in 2013 and has been helping new playwrights develop their work ever since. Work developed through WFTS has gone onto local runs and national tours, competition wins, and careers in theatre, TV, and radio.

What is dramaturgy?

It’s an odd word, isn’t it. Basically, dramaturgy is the study and art of dramatic composition, examining playwriting as a craft.

Dramaturgs in theatres consult with writers and presenting companies to explore a script’s theatrical presentation. Essentially, they provide an outside/audience’s eye during the rehearsal process, ensuring the company’s intentions are clear and delivering their objectives.

However, dramaturgy often begins much earlier than the production stage. As a script dramaturg, we look at the text: exploring plot flow, character decisions, character voices, and structure.

How much does a script consultation cost?

Your script’s duration dictates the consultation price, but we offer competitive rates.

We assess a script’s duration, principally, by the amount of pages, as long as the script uses standard formatting.

Up to 25 pages: £30

25-40 page: £50

40-60 pages: £75

60-80 pages: £100 (with a longer meeting duration)

80+ pages: Please request a quote.
