Top of the Stack: Act 3

£100.00

Endings are notoriously challenging to get right. Indeed, a strong Act 3 ensures your audience leaves the theatre satisfied — and more likely to return for your next play.

This is the moment where your protagonist rises from the nadir of Act 2 and finally confronts the Problem of the World that has threatened to undo them throughout the story. Act 3 is where avoidance ends and direct action finally begins.

With careful preparation, Act 3 ties the story together in a way that feels logical and inevitable, answering the questions you planted in the opening pages and delivering the emotional resolution your audience has been waiting for.

Who is Top of the Stack: Act 3 for?

Suitable for beginners and experienced playwrights. Perhaps you’ve nearly finished your play but are stuck at the ending?

What People Say about WriteForTheStage Courses

Denise Morton

A throroughly enjoyable and informative course that helped me understand the stages involved in structuring a powerful second act. Mike packed in a huge amount of information, but made it easier to digest through the use of well thought out resources, examples, written exercises, and practical application to our scripts in progress. I know this will make a huge difference to my writing.

Liam OGrady

Great course. I learned a lot within a friendly and encouraging online environment. As a group we were able to share, discuss and apply the tools and techniques learned, to our own specific work. Mike is a very good teacher, providing extensive course notes, and insightful, specific, guidance. His skill as a course leader / educator help to encourage a supportive and constructive group experience. The five weeks have been a fun time. My main take-aways were: considering the main dramatic question of each scene: and how every line of dialogue should have an action associated to them. These techniques, and more, have enabled me to start re-drafting my current play with the confidence that it will vastly improve it, in both focus and energy. A very enjoyable course and well worth the money. Thanks Mike.

Super course. Mike was clear and constructive. Warm and welcoming way of working in a small group to understand how to improve and produce a dynamic opening to a play. Warm ups led naturally to the subject matter of each session. Great to be able to hear and appreciate others’ work in progress and to see how Mike’s teaching consolidated and built over the weeks to give a lasting structure. I will definitely be looking to working with Mike in the future.
